Periods 1, 2, 6 & 7: My absence today comes at an awkward time. My classes
had Spring break, then a week of CSAP testing. During the CSAP testing we only
met once. On that day we began a video entitled “Sweet 15”. We
watched that once during CSAP week and continued it for 30 minutes on Monday.
Tuesday the classes were in the computer lab finishing web quest projects that
they have been working on for a couple of months. Yesterday we had planned
to finish “Sweet 15” and nearly did. In each class there are only
about 5-10 minutes of the video remaining to be seen. The video is in the VCR
(in the cabinet under the television). Please rewind the video until it is
at approximately 1 hour 50 minutes (ask the kids to let you know if it is in
the right place in each class). Let them watch the end of the video. After
the video is over, I have told the students that they will be writing an essay
on the “Quinceañera”. They are to write about what it
is, who celebrates it, how it is celebrated and what its significance is.
They
have taken notes during the video and may use these to write their essays.
Please have them write neatly and double-space. At the end of the hour, they
should turn in their essays. They do not need to turn in their charts or
their notes. I will look at these when I return. If there is time at the
end of the
hour, when the essays are completed, please pass out the copies of the AHORA
magazines to the students. Have them read the articles in the magazines and
write answers to the activities on a sheet of paper. Please be sure to collect
all copies of the magazines at the end of the hour. Thank you.
Period 3: You will do this in every class except 3rd period, who had a special stage presentation of Papi, me and Cesar Chavez yesterday, so they will need to watch the video all the way from about 1:00 to the end. You will have to rewind the video back to about 1:00 after you show it in second period and let 3rd watch the entire thing. Hopefully you will have time to finish the video all the way to the end. Have the students write their “Quinceañera” essays at home and bring them in tomorrow. Thanks.
In each class, tell the students that they will be watching the video of the Cesar Chavez play tomorrow. The third period class will be doing the AHORA activities.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call me.
