Sub Plans for Monday, October 1, 2007
Staff meeting – 7:30 in the
Round House
Please pick up all of my
materials, including the handouts for Advisory and take notes on what we are
supposed to do with our advisory classes this week on Wednesday.
lunes: Planning Period 2nd
EVEN CLASSES – same plan for 4th & 6th
martes: Planning Period 1st
ODD CLASSES – same plan for 3rd, 5th & 7th
Objectives: In my classes we have been listening to the
music of Juanes, a Colombian singer, and also talking
about places of interest in the community.
We are watching the movie, “María Full of
Grace” because it will give us a good basis for conversation on the difference
between communities in Colombia and here in the U.S., it will also allow us to
continue the discussion of the huge issue of drug trafficking, which we have
began when listening to the music of Juanes. Finally, the movie is in Spanish, with
English subtitles, which will give the students the opportunity to listen to
authentic Spanish, while still being able to understand the plot of the movie. On Friday, all of the classes watched the
first part of the video. I asked the sub
to make note of how far each class got in the video for each class. Here are the instructions that I gave to the
sub on Friday for showing the video in each class. They should be the same for you, except, the
sub may have left the DVD on top of my desk.
Plans given to sub on Friday – also good for
continuation on Monday:
1. Please ask any students who have not already
done so to turn in their permission slips.
Please mark off the names of the students who have turned in slips on
each class list and keep the permission slips separated by class period.
2. Any students who do not have a permission
slip will go to the Media Center to create a PowerPoint Presentation on
Colombia, including information on: the
geographical location / government / society / and specially focusing on the
issue of illegal drug trafficking and its effect on the economy and the social
conditions in the country. Please keep a
list of these students for me so that I can have them turn in their projects to
me next week. These students should
check in with Lana Fain in the
3. Students will not e required to take notes on the movie, but they should be able to
remember the names of the main characters and be able to give a brief synopsis
of the plot. They should also be
familiar enough with the events of the movie to be able to discuss them in
class next week.
4. The video “María
Full of Grace” is in the right hand drawer of my teacher desk in the corner of
room W-106. The video may either be
shown on the DVD player under the TV set in the AV cupboard. Put the TV on Input 2 and then set the DVD
player to DVD (instead of VHS). When you
push play, it should begin showing on the TV, but you may have to adjust the
volume.
5. I think that you could also show it through
the DVD player on the computer and then project it onto the screen. This would be better for the students if you
can get it to work.
a. Log on to the computer using my username: amron and my password: This4now.
b. Put the DVD in the computer DVD drive
c. This should upen up Windown Media Player and allow you to start showing the
movie.
d. To turn on the projector, simply press the on switch,
located on the top of the projector.
e. You may need to adjust the focus.
f. Be sure that the speakers for the computer are turned on
(using the knobs on the front of the speaker on the right side – again – volume
adjustment may be necessary.
g. Please keep track of exactly where you get to with each
class in the movie and write it onto the lesson plan for Monday that is also
sitting on my desk. I will be gone to a training on Monday, so will also have a sub on that
day. That sub will need to know where to
start the DVD in each class.
h. Also, please leave these instructions on how
to show the DVD for my sub on Monday. I
will refer to them in my plans for him/her.
i.
Please leave the DVD in the
case on top of my desk with the sub plans for Monday.
j. Also, please leave all of the seating charts and the class
attendance lists (for checking off permission slips) on top of the desk with
the Monday sub plans.
Thank you very much for
subbing for my classes today. If you
have any trouble, just make note of the troublemakers on my seating chart (let
them know that you are doing that) and I will definitely handle things when I
return on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you
have too much trouble with any particular students – just send them to the
assistant principal’s office in the West Wing – Michael James - with a note.
