Periods 5 & 7 – Spanish III – Thursday afternoon

 

1.  Go over quizzes from last week- if not graded – then exchange and grade, using the key on top of my desk.  If graded – please put in alphabetical order by last name and then give to Joan Suder to enter grades into gradebook.  Joan Suder – West Wing Secretary

 

2.  Review of Present Progressive Tense. – PowerPoint Presentation

       Hand out “Handouts with 6 slides per page of Progressive Presentation

       Go through the presentation with the students – have them take notes in their notebooks.  Remind them to date their notes and put them in chronological order in their notebooks.

 

3.  Verb Boxes:  Have the students make 6 verb boxes in their notes – like this:

VERB: 

ENGLISH:  to fix, straighten up

Yo 

Nosotros/as 

Vosotros/as 

El. Ella. Ud. 

Ellos, ellas, Uds. 

 

Have students select 6 verbs from the list below and create a Present Progressive Verb Box for each in their notes.

VERB:  arreglar

ENGLISH:  to fix, straighten up

Yo  estoy arreglando

Nosotros/as  estamos arreglando

estás arreglando

Vosotros/as  estáis arreglando

El. Ella. Ud. está arreglando

3.  Worksheets on Present Progressive Tense – In Español Esencial 3 Workbook – Look in the Table of Contents and find where the practice sheets for the Present Progressive are.

       Do as many of the worksheets as you have time for.

       Have students do one worksheet – then go over the answers with them, using the key in the copy of the workbook on my desk (I think that it is in the stacking tray).

 

4.  Have the students review the formation of the present tense of the verb ESTAR on page 277 of the blue Level 2 textbook.  CLICK HERE FOR SCAN OF PAGE 277

 

5.  Have students read the information on the Present Progressive verbs from pages 278 – 279 of the Level 2 Textbook (blue-classroom set copies on shelves at east end of classroom) – make a transparency or write the information on the board (or on a write-on transparency) for the students.  CLICK HERE FOR SCAN OF PAGE 278 in TEXT

 

6.  Have the students work with a partner to do the oral practices of the progressive from pages 278-280 of the blue textbook.  I am attaching a scan of those pages that you can either put up on the screen or print off for the students.

7.  Writing Activity – Look around the classroom.  Select 10 students.  Write one sentence for each stating what they ARE DOING at this moment in the classroom….

Examples:  María está leyendo el texto.  Pablo está hablando con Carlos.
