A Great Start
We’re off to a
great start! Students have been getting to know classroom and playground rules,
routines, and one another these first few weeks. Thanks for all your support at
home getting your child back into the school and homework routine.
Homework Folder
Please help your
child get in the habit of bringing his/her homework folder to school each day.
I appreciate you signing the steno every night/day. Please take out papers that
have been completed and graded. Homework will usually be assigned on Monday and
is due on Thursday of that same week. Also, if your child completes the
homework packet early, he/she may return it any day of the week. If you don’t
understand an abbreviation or something else that your child is writing in
her/his steno, ask your child to see if she/he can explain it to you. If not,
call or jot a note to me.
Recycle
Spelling Words
Students are
expected to look through this we
ek’s work for recycle spelling words. If a paper has an
R on it that means to look for misspelled words. The students have been
instructed to write these words on the “Recycle Words” page in the back of the
homework folder. I could use your help to make sure these words are spelled
correctly. Thanks bunches!
Parent Conferences
Thank you for taking time to meet with me this
past week. Conferencing with you at the beginning of the year is so valuable.
It is so important to me to know your child’s strengths, needs and the goals
you have for your son or daughter up front. If I promised to follow up with
something that I haven’t attended to yet, don’t hesitate to jot a note in your
child’s homework/steno folder. Thanks again for your valuable input.
Guest Reader
Guest Reader begins this coming week. Please make time to listen to your third grader read aloud over the long weekend. He/she should come ready to read on his.her designated day.
Volunteers
Thanks to all parents who are willing and able to help this school year. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have so many parents able to give us such great support! Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
Map
Skills
We have been learning about maps and globes in social studies. The boys and girls are doing a terrific job finding information in their “Map Champ” atlases. We will be learning about the continents and oceans, directions, map keys and symbols, and how to use a scale to calculate distance. Ask your child to sing The Continent Song we learned in class recently.
Field Trip
Third grade classes will be going to the
Lincoln Center for the “Magic in the Rockies” show on September 10. Please sign
and return the attached permission form as soon as possible. Unfortunately, if
we do not receive permission forms for field trips, we are unable to let your
child attend that trip.
