Florence Nightingale was a chief nurse for the British Army during the Crimean War, from 1854 to 1856. She discovered that many deaths were related to the lack of sanitation within the military hospitals. A strong weapon in her fight to successfully integrate new policies was the use of data and representing it in a method that anyone could understand. Describing data and knowing how to display it helped Nightingale to save many lives.
