Ronald A Fisher is considered to be the "father of statistics". In 1919 he worked on agricultural field experiments in Rothamsted, England. Since many variables will effect the way the crops grow, a systematic method needed to be developed to compare the harvests from cop to crop. Fisher was the first person to have the idea to "arrange the plots deliberately at random". Randomness and how to achieve it is the central focus of statistical methods and experimental design. |
