Introduction to Proportion
inference Review For Hypothesis Test and Confidence Interval
|
Estimating a proportion can prove to be extremely important, especially around election time. It was a mistake in estimation that caused one of the biggest election fiascos to ever take place in the United States. The election came down to a dog fight between George W Bush and Al Gore. After declaring the state of Florida for both candidates, two separate times, the press made drastic mistakes that could have changed the outlook of the entire nationwide election. Bush ended up winning the state of Florida by a mere1700 votes causing a legal battle that lasted throughout the remainder of the year. The supreme Court finally intervened and declared the election in Bush's favor. A lot of problems can develop from simple mistakes in statistical procedures.
