Gas Density Problems (the Litter-Box Equation J)

1.        Silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4) is a starting material for the production of electronics-grade silicon.  Calculate the density of pure silicon tetrachloride vapor at 85°C and 758 torr.

2.        Calculate the density of ammonia gas at 27°C and 635 mm Hg.

3.        A compound contains only nitrogen and hydrogen and is 87.4% nitrogen by mass.  A gaseous sample of the compound has a density of 0.977 g/L at 710. Torr and 100°C.  What is the molecular formula of the compound?

4.        A compound has the empirical formula CHCl.  A 256-mL flask, at 373 K and 750 torr, contains 0.80 g of the gaseous compound.  Give the molecular formula.
