The Curriculum - The music curriculum at Olander is a spiraling curriculum, meaning that each objective addressed is continually revisited and built upon. We adapt and apply the methods and philosophies of Orff Schulwerk and Zoltan Kodaly, and nearly every lesson in music class includes opportunities to sing, move, read music, improvise and play a wide variety of musical instruments.
Materials - We use the Silver Burdett series in kindergarten through sixth grade, and PSD's own Music Memory series, which features a wonderful collection of lessons on classical music and composers. Supplemental materials include: My Music Book, John M. Feierabend publications, and Play Recorder by Gerald Burakoff.
