THE SENIOR PROJECT FOR
PROJECT BASED LEARNING STEP ONE: CONTACT SENIORS
GENERATION GAP PROJECT : LETTER TO SENIOR VOLUNTEERS AND PARENTS
We are beginning our next PBL Project known as the Generation Gap Project. Our Driving Question is: What Does It Mean To Come Of Age? Our goal is for students to interact with senior citizens on a collaborative project that will record living histories and inspire conversations about the past, the present, and the future. There are several different aspects to our project and we are looking for senior volunteers to partner with our sixth graders during this project. Their time commitment would not be extreme. Your mission, should you decide to accept, will focus on the following topics: · Creating a partnership with a 6th grade student to share stories and discover some of life’s lessons. · Produce a This I believe Essay for possible broadcast on NPR and pod cast on Olander Elementary’s web site. · Produce an oral history and scrapbook for possible inclusion in the Story Corp Project. · Produce an artistic expression that will tell the story of your lives. Possibly quilt squares for a large quilt or individual quilt pictures. Should you decide to participate in this venture, we would like to thank you in advance for your willingness to help us teach these emerging adults the importance of individual histories and real life skills that will help them to be successful citizens.
