What is happening in Room 100 during the week of May 21, 2012
Thank you all so much for making Teacher Appreciation Week so special!! I'll be drinking Starbuck's and think of my first graders!
Core Block
We will be continuing our Ocean Unit this week. We have also started learning about modern day Mexico.
Reading
The children should be bringing home their reading books home every night and returning them every day. They will exchange for new books every second or third day. Please remember these are at their independent level not their instructional level. The purpose of nightly reading homework is to increase their fluency and their confidence level. When they are in group with me is when we work on their instructional level.
Math
We are working on measurement - length, capacity and weight this week in math. We will continue to do addition and subtraction sheets too.
The goal is that by the end of first grade they can do 15 addition problems in 1 minute! Keep working on those facts! The IXL math site is great practice for the children. I hope more will start to use it.
Spelling
You should have received your child's 4th quarter sight word test last Friday. Attached should have been the third quarter words which we will test over this week. These words can be found on my home page by quarters.
