I feel that communication between home and school is vital to the success of your child’s education. I will post a newsletter on our website informing you of how our time is spent at school and any upcoming events which you need to be aware of. I can be reached at school before 8:30 and after 3:00, unless it is an emergency, I prefer not to be disturbed during class time. Our classroom number is 488-7511.
Classroom Behavior Management:
I use the stop-light system. Green means the child is having a good day. Yellow means that the child has been warned about a specific problem behavior and they will miss five minutes of recess. Red means that the child made another bad choice after a warning and they now miss the entire recess. Please keep in mind that this process only starts after I feel the children have a good understanding of the classroom rules. Remember, everyone makes a mistake once in a while!
Please check your child’s HOMEWORK FOLDER daily. Please make sure your child reads everything in the book baggie to you. First graders’ homework consists of their 15 minutes of nightly reading. Please make sure you sign your child’s reading log calendar. Everything in the baggie is returned to school with the HOMEWORK FOLDER . One pocket will be for papers to stay at home and the other is for papers to be returned to school. I also encourage you to help your child practice their handwriting, high frequency spelling words, and their math facts up to ten occasionally. Thanks for your support and partnership
to help your child be successful during their first grade year in school.
I like to make every child’s birthday a special day. If you would like to send a treat, I would suggest a cookie, ice cream bar, or an individually wrapped treat. Treats have to be store bought due to district health regulations. Please don’t forget the napkins. Please, Do Not hand out birthday party invitations at school unless you are inviting the entire class, as feelings get hurt very easily if a child is left out. Note - please send napkins to school with the treats.
If plans change for afternoon transportation, please let me know by sending a note or calling the office, as early as possible.
Book Club Orders:
I will send home book club orders about once a month. Please look over these forms, as they are the best and cheapest way to buy books for your child. For every order placed we earn bonus points, which I use to purchase books for our classroom library. If you choose to order, please make your check out to the book company. This is a very inexpensive way to add to your home library. I hope to set up an account on line so you can do it from directly to Scholastic.
I use parent volunteers in many ways in my classroom:
Reading helpers (small groups and individual work)
These will be from 8:50 - 10:10 every day. I will need to helpers daily.
Field trip chaperons
At home work - when I’m ahead of schedule
Putting up/taking down bulletin boards
