Current events are a way for you to see how science relates to every day life, the world, and you! They are worth 20 points (10 each) and should be considered a major assignment. Do your best work! TWO articles with an accompanying analysis are due every other week – for the entire year! Directions ~ A: Neatly cut out a current event from a magazine or newspaper (NO photocopies) relating to science and tape it to a clean sheet of notebook paper. On-line resources are limited to the following sites… CNN www.cnn.com, Science News www.sciencenews.org, Discover www.discover.com and National Geographic www.nationalgeographic.com. If on-line resources are used, you must print out a copy of the article. NOTE: · The article MUST be 5 paragraphs or more! · Articles must be from the life science branches…no weather, astronomy, or other physical science branches.
B: Read the article and HIGHLIGHT any scientific facts as you read. · C: After reading and highlighting the article, complete the following analysis; 1: In 4-5 complete sentences summarize the main idea of the article 2: List and describe the branch of Biology that the article is relates to in 4-5 sentences. 3: Explain why this article is important in today’s world or its relevance to you 4: List and discuss (in your own words) three scientific facts that you learned about while reading this article. At least 1 complete sentence per fact! |
