Text Box: I. Did student develop a scientific question and create a hypothesis based on current research & logical thought process?
Question is well written, detailed and in question format.
Hypothesis is clearly stated and supported in 5-6 complete sentences explanation, research and observations.

II. Did student write a clear plan of action in their lab report using all steps in the scientific method?
Lab is written in chronological order.
All steps of scientific method are included, & identified in the lab report

III. Did the student control the variables to conduct a well organized and logical experimental procedure?
Student clearly identified the control within the procedure.
All variables are kept constant during the experiment.
Experiment was conducted in an organized, detailed fashion and well documented.
Materials are listed before the procedure.

IV. Did the student collect and analyze quantitative data within the experiment using the proper tools?
Quantitative (numbers) data is collected and displayed in a table and graph.
Proper measurements and tools are used to collect data (metric)
Graph is constructed according to graphing rules (see permanent handout)
Attractive and colorful graphs and tables

 V. Did the student formulate a logical conclusion based on scientific evidence within the experiment?
Hypothesis is restated in conclusion and accepts or rejects hypothesis based upon experimental evidence.
Conclusion is 1-2 paragraphs with 5-6 complete sentences for each paragraph.
Clearly explains the results using research and data collected.

VI. Did the student identify sources of error and uncertainty within the investigation in the conclusion?
Student identified at least 3 or more errors throughout experiment and explanation as to how errors affected experiment.
Analyzed all possible errors not just the obvious errors

VII. Did the student analyze the results, provide alternatives to further improve upon the investigation or application for their results in the conclusion?
Student has at least 3 or more logical improvements suggested
Student has at least 2 or more applications to their learning.

Don’t forget to include a proper Bibliography page to cite your references at the end of the report !

Text Box: How to do a Lab Report

Each semester Biology student will write a 4-6 page lab report (word-processed) using the steps in the scientific method in accordance with the 7 science standards listed below.  Lab reports are considered major test grades.
