ABSENT CONTRACT

Absences from school can often times become very stressful for students if the absence policy for each individual teacher is unclear.  To avoid confusion and clarify expectations, teachers in the biology department will follow the guidelines listed below.

· Absent wok is the responsibility of the student. Each teacher has a binder or make-up calendar in their room for students to access missed information.

· An absence from school, whether excused or unexcused, does NOT mean that the student is excused from that work.  Any work missed during an absence MUST BE MADE UP. (This includes school activities such as sports, field trips and school events)

· Work needs to be made-up in a timely manner. Half credit will be awarded for work that is 1 week late and NO CREDIT for any work that is turned in more than two weeks late.

· Absent students will have two days, upon return from an absence to make-up any work. Students should schedule a time with their primary teacher for either before school, lunch or after school.

· Any student that knows in advance of a prolonged absence (3 or more days) needs to contact the teacher a week prior to the event so that they can complete all work before leaving for the absence.

· In case of a serious illness, the main office should be contacted immediately and teachers notified so that work may be sent home.

· On average st6udnets miss 3 days a year. Six or more absences from school could adversely affect a grade or put a student in jeopardy of failing a class.
