HEELLLLLLPPP!!!
Here are some websites to
assist you during those times that you need help (and fast!), when emailing Mr.
Martine just won’t work soon enough.
This is not a complete list, but just some that I’ve found helpful.
AlgebraComplete: A free online
tutorial video series. Can be
especially helpful if you missed math class and can reference the topic we
discussed!
Ask Dr. Math: This site has a
searchable archive of frequently asked questions, as well as the chance to ask
your own question of a math teacher, who will email a reply. This site is great in that it will help you
understand your solution, not just give you an answer (you know how Mr. Martine
loves his students to explain!). Also,
the Math Forum website is quite
useful. While I haven’t spent a lot of
time in the MathTools
section, this appears to have some great info as well.
EdHelper: This website will create a review worksheet of skills questions
for any level and include an answer key.
Great for extra practice and studying for tests! Most questions are skill level questions
rather than application, so beware of this!
Also, the homepage of this site
includes links for help in subjects other than math.
GoMath: A good site with a large archive of
previously answered questions organized by topic. Be as specific as possible to narrow your search and get the help
you want in a timely manner. Also, this
site has several math games you can play that are quite fun. (I’m learning with this game!! Geez!)
Mathcounts: This site is a good one to
practice problem-solving skills, or just to have fun with questions. The Problem of the Week and Go Figure Math
Challenge are both great opportunities for some extensions of your learning.
Math is Fun: This site is educational and fun. There are games and puzzles, as well as activities, to boost your
mathematics skills.
MathMovesU.com: This site isn’t so much
for help, but it has great information about using math in careers, etc. It also has a scholarship application you
can fill out!
Mathwarehouse.com: This site requires an updated Flash player,
but has some great interactive practice with answers provided when you are
ready. I linked you to the Interactive
page of this site, which lists most topics in an easy to read format. With a little navigation from the home page, you can get more topics.
Parents:
This site has ideas on guiding your student to understanding his/her work. This is especially helpful with times you are
feeling frustrated because your student is learning math with a different
approach than you learned. J
Purplemath.com: I have linked
to the guidelines for homework paper submissions; I really want my students to
connect with this! However, this site
is not just about how to turn in a good math paper; there is a lot more here. This site (if you go to their homepage) can
be used to teach yourself some algebra or as a filtered search engine to get
you to other helpful math sites.
Webmath: This site has a “get the answer”
format. While it may get you through a few
stuck points, be sure that you figure out the why of your problem, or
that you come in and ask for help so that you can understand and explain!
