I believed that someone had to go and that I owed it to my country.

I received a few honorary medals but nothing special.

 

Do you have a war story you would like to tell?

None that I’d like to share.

What was your reaction when you found out the war was over?

I felt elation.

What was the most frightening event of the war for you?

The most frightening part of the war were probably the Kamikazes. All the most frightening events were a lot more frightening after they were over.

What was the most cherished memory of the war for you?

The fact that I was part of a group of men that helped to protect our good old USA.

Do you have regrets about your service in World War II?

The only regret I had was that someone had to do it.

How do you feel about America today?

I’m proud to be an American and I think we’re trying to do the right thing.

How do you feel about the war with Iraq?

I think the war is a mistake and not the war we should be fighting in.

As long as you’ve got hope and young people to come.
