Do you have a war story you would like to tell?

 

I served aboard the LST (Last Stop Tokyo) from 8-44 to 1-1-46. We were on the invasion of Iwo Jima, Okinawa. I saw the famous flag go up, taken down, and finally the second bigger flag go up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What was your reaction when you found out the war was over?

 

Very pleased, I wanted to get home to see my family.

 

 

 

What was the most frightening event of the war for you?

 

The D-day of Iwo Jima we rode 5 typhoons and 1 hurricane during our time out on sea.

 

 

 

What was the most cherished memory of the war for you?

 

 

Going home.

 

 

 

 

How do you feel about America today?

 

 

It’s a very wonderful country.

 

 

How do you feel about the war with Iraq?

 

 

We shouldn’t be there.

I also served in the Navy Reserve, from 8-42 to 55.

 

From 1955 to 65 I was a Colorado National Guard.

 

We called our LST Last Stop Tokyo because Tokyo really was the last stop. Also the LST’s are as big as a football field.
