Our three spelling lists seem to be working very well.  Students scoring 90% or higher on the pre-test are given a Challenge Spelling list, between 70% and 89% places them on the Standard list and below 70% on the Developing list.  I am pleased when students don't make the Challenge list and are disappointed.  Please continue to encourage each of them to strive for the challenging lists.

Our language activities continue to center around DLR worksheets, augmented by our Open Court reading materials.  These activities are generally finished and reviewed in class.
Open Court continues to be our standard reading material.  However, our first Lit Circle group is up and running, reading The View from Saturday.  Over the next several weeks, I will transition the rest of the class to Lit Circles based on their individual reading levels.
We started an in-depth study of the 6 Writing Traits this week.  We will concentrate on each trait for ~3 days or so, allowing us to move into formal writing projects beginning in mid October.
We are making great progress in Unit 2 of our Everyday Math curriculum.  At our current pace, we are on track for our next test on Thursday, Sept. 25.
Our first unit in Earth Materials is finished (An Introduction to Rocks).  We are now moving into a more in-depth study of the characteristics of rocks.  So far, everyone is very excited to show off their own rock collections.
