Star Chart

Follow the instructions below to create a star chart. All materials will be supplied.
Creating the Star Chart
Materials:
Constellation wheel handout Constellation Frame Handout
Manila folder
Scissors, Glue Paper fastener
Procedure:
1. Collect all materials
2. Glue constellation wheel to heavy paper
3. Glue constellation frame to manila folder, lining up the fold on the fold with the side of the frame that says “place on fold.”
4. Cut out the constellation frame along the outer dashed lines. Do not cut the entire length of the fold.
5. Punch a hole through both layers of the frame at the location marked.
6. Open out the frame. Cut the inner shaded areas from the top layer only.
7. Punch a hole in the center of the constellation wheel.
8. Place the wheel inside the frame and push the paper fastener through the wheel and back of the frame.
9. Put a dab of glue (or tape) in the four corners of the frame; do not glue the wheel.
10. Put your name on the back of the wheel.
How to use the wheel:
Line up the current time and the date. Hold the wheel over your head so that “north” is toward the north. The stars should be in the same pattern as on the wheel. The edges of the oval cutout area are the horizon.
