Your assignment is to prepare a research presentation on one of the following minerals.  You may pick one of your choosing, however, I will not allow two people in the same class to have identical minerals.

The poster or presentation must include and will be graded based on the following:

1.      Mineral name, pictures of both the raw and refined form. 10- points

2.      Chemical composition, formula (what element(s)?) Is it ionic, molecular or metallic? – 10 points

3.      How is it found in nature – its natural state? – 5 points

4.      Its characteristics – color, crystal system, cleavage or fracture, hardness, streak, density, luster, and any special characteristics. – 10 points.

5.      Where is the mineral found geographically? – 5 points

6.      How is it mined? – 5 points

7.      Name a specific mine where it is extracted and tell about this mine. – 7 points – extra credit

8.      How is it processed or purified for use? – 5 points

9.      What are its major uses? Be specific. – 5 points

10.  Is it valuable?  What does it cost? – 5 points

11.  Did you use proper grammar and organization? – 10 points

12.  Bibliography with at least 3 sources. – 15 points

13.  Overall quality (neatness, eye-pleasing, creativity, etc.) – 15 points

Total – 100 points + 7 points extra credit
