1-2 Getting Organized

Rules Triangle Creation (as discussed in class)

In class discussions, we came up with various rules for creating triangles.:

  1. All angles must add up to 180 degrees.
  2. The sum of the length of any two sides MUST be greater than the length of the third.
  1. Each side must have a length greater than zero.
  1. At least two angles must be lesss than 90 degrees.

Hints for organizing Quantities (like time or weight) among multiple people/items

Do not do anything in a random way, think through this logically. These are guidelines that will usually get you the answer, but the results may need to be tweeked at the end to give the absoulte best results. The cample given is for either a person or a container. This may vary, depending on the stated problem.

  1. Add up all of the items and divide by the maximum value each person or container can handle. This will give you the minimum number of people or containers needed to do the task
  2. Arrange the items (i.e. time) in descending order.
  1. Assign the largest quantity to the first person or container or ... than is available with enough time, weight, etc. to accept it.
  2. Repeat step 3 with each item in the list, always assigning to the first available person or container.
  3. If everything does not fit quite perfectly, you may need to exchange the last item in one or more of the lists to provide a better fit.
  4. Compare the actual results with the ideal results calculated in step 1. If the actual results are greater than the ideal results, please analyze and see if there is any way to reduce the actual results. If not, which may be the case, go with your answer.
