Park Design
Assignment
General Rules
- There
are two to three people on each park team. Each park team produces one park design.
- Each park
design may be either a detailed map or a three dimensional relief of the
park.
- Each park
needs to have a sports area (any sport or combination), a small zoo area,
and a botanical area, including two crossing fountains shooting water in a
parabolic arch. Include one to two
additional areas of your own choosing.
- At
least one path needs to be defined by a third level quadratic and one by a
fourth level. For example, a third
level would be ax3 + bx2 + cx +d
- Each
park needs to be based on interviews with at least five people (teachers,
students, parents, siblings, etc.) to determine what should be in your
park. You might have a preliminary
interview with a few people to determine what your additional area is.
- In
additional to the fountain parabola and quadratic path, have two more
designs based on mathematical principals.
- Each parks
must have one additional feature that relate to the theme of your park but
not necessarily relate to mathematics.
- Each park
design must be neat and well organized.
- A
computer-written bibliography (with at least three entries) MUST to be
included with each park design. I
will verify the sources. If there
is no bibliography, there will be no grade for the project.
- Computer
lab time will be scheduled throughout the semester. The schedule is shown on the calendar.
- All
members of the project will earn the same grade. Please talk with me if a member of the team is not
contributing.
- You
need to go through a planning process,.
Some of the scores below are based on this process.
