July 2002 Chambers Lake Campground site #44. Roosevelt National Forest. (same campsite as August, 2000) "Hey Dad, the Honda looks cute with the canoe on top!" |

"Hey Mom, there's a lot more water in the lake than there was two years ago! I'm glad I reserved our campsite for earlier in the summer this time!" |
![]() |
"Look how much the lake has gone down in just a few days!" By the time we left (the end of the week), there wasn't any water at all on the boat ramp. |

"Hey Dad, the smoke from the fires at Steamboat Springs are making the mountains hazy!" |

Washington, D.C.
I was back in Washington, DC for the second year attending a Department of Education Conference. "Reporting from the White House, this is Campbell Brown, NBC News..." |
Korean War Memorial.
The pictures I took last year didn't turn out well. Using the digital camera this time around gave me some great photos. You must absolutely see this memorial at night! |
This statue gave me goose bumps. |

Camp STN. I was a guest instructor for the national Camp STN (Student Television Network) where 37 middle and high school teachers from 13 states spent an intense week learning all about media and broadcast journalism. This photo is courtesy of Noel Green who has it on his website with the caption: "Wes 'Doc' Leggett explains that 'this' is a goatee...what Noel has is something else." |

August 2002 After spending three days of listening to morning presentations and observing demonstrations and then afternoons practicing techniques, the "beginning track" teachers got to spend a day gathering stories at the Ozark Empire Fair where they put their newly learned skills to the test. |
The great thing about the Fair is that there are hundreds of stories to capture and report. |
These teachers found "My Fair Lady"...a woman who had been taking her vacation time the past 50 years to attend the Fair where she has won countless blue ribbon awards in cooking and horticulture. |
The "advanced track" teachers had their own set of presentations, demonstrations, and activities, including one assignment to produce a "behind the scenes" story by shadowing the "beginning track" teachers from start to finish as they produced their Ozark Empire Fair stories. While the other instructors and I roamed around checking on how each team of teachers were doing, we used the opportunity to capture our own video and images for use in some very "special" ways (inside joke). |
A popular tradition at the fair are the Pineapple Whip booths. Too bad you can't see that I have my hips really moving, too! |

Dowdy Lake
Campground sites #33 and #34. Roosevelt National Forest. It was great to have Grandma and Grandpa join us for a week at our favorite campground! |
"Okay, which trailer is for two people and which trailer is for five people?" |
"Hi Dad, we're playing Skip Bo with Grandpa! There's not much else to do when it rains for three days straight!" |
"Hey, the sun is finally back out and the lake is calm! Time to get the canoe in the water!" |
"Look, Grandma and Daddy are back from their paddling around the lake!" |
"Okay, Daddy and Grandpa
are back from their paddling...MY TURN!"
"Just be patient, Tuxie, I'll take you out!" |
"Hmmm...this
looks like a good recipe!"
"Forget food, Mom, when am I going back out in the canoe again?" "Ahhhhhh...this is so relaxing, just sitting here enjoying the serene view and watching the grandkids frolic in the water." |
"Yes, that's why this is our favorite campground!" |
"Ahhhhhh...I love my tube!" |
"Hey Grandpa made it to the top first...you're fast Grandpa!!!" |
