General Welfare

Taxes allow the government to provide for the general welfare of the community through public services. Taxes also pay for the bureaucracy to work by employing people and agencies to carry out the laws.

There are many different types of taxes. The taxes most people are aware of include Sales, Property and Income taxes.

Though social policies sometimes governed the course of tax policy such as taxing tobacco and liquor, the nature of these policies was not levied to equalize incomes and wealth, or for the purpose of redistributing income or wealth.
