My Campsite Photo Galleries  Updated 03.13.12

I was very, very lucky to have grown up with parents who loved camping. They started out with a tent when I was just a few years old and quickly moved up to an Apache tent camper, then a Coleman popup, then an Eco "Egg" trailer, and back to a Coachmen popup before I moved away from home. I camped with them just once in their next RV, a Holiday travel trailer. What is really interesting is that their very next trailer, a Sport King, was the same size as the current Fun Finder travel trailer we now have (coincidence?).

Over my childhood and teenage years, we made many, many happy memories and family bonding experiences both traveling across the U.S. camping, sightseeing, and visiting relatives, as well as doing numerous weekend camping trips to the Ozark lakes that were only an hour away from where we lived. I always knew that I wanted to provide the same experiences for my own family.

In April, 2000, we purchased our first RV, a Coleman popup. While I figured the kids would love camping (fortunately, they did right off the bat!), once I confirmed my wife was firmly on-board (she didn't grow up camping like I did), we moved up to a small Fun Finder travel trailer and shortly thereafter a 4WD Suburban so we could camp, travel, sightsee, and visit relatives year-round, regardless of weather or destination accommodations. With our new Fun Finder, we were fully self-contained with a toilet, shower, stove, sink, refrigerator, food and utensil storage, supplies and cargo storage, wardrobe closet and clothing/linen storage, roomy family dinette, couch, bunks, and an overlong queen-size master dinette bed.

On May 22, 2008, our beloved Fun Finder was totaled in an EF3 tornado (the largest ever in Colorado) that hit our small town of Windsor. Coincidentally (or not), the Fun Finder X160WB Prototype (from my proposed 160WQB design) had just completed its western region dealer tour and was in Grand Junction, Colorado. Cruiser RV generously offered to sell us the Prototype for what I believe was their cost to build it. We now have our second Fun Finder, a trailer I designed! My favorite proclamation (still) is, "No matter where we go, our motel room is always just 4 feet behind us!"

"You all look like happy campers to me. Happy campers you are, happy campers you have been, and, as far as I am concerned, happy campers you will always be." -- Dan Quayle

My best friend and I, along with help from his dad, built a "Camping Caboose" (as my mom called it) trailer from a salvaged pickup bed for a trip from the Ozarks to Colorado for the annual Pikes Peak Hill Climb and other adventures. While we camped for a week in our tent, we spent the night before the Hill Climb on top of Pikes Peak (yes, on top!) in my Bronco with ski suits on, inside sleeping bags, with the engine running and the heater on full blast as we rocked all night long to the fierce wind. That was absolutely the coldest night of my life!

After our insurance company determined that the cost to repair the roof, siding, window, and other damage caused by the tennis ball sized hail and flying debris from the May tornado was more than she was worth, a towing company came to take her away to a salvage and auction company in Denver. We said "Goodbye" to our beloved "Shadow" and thanked her for nearly 7 wonderful years of family memories.
